Landshut, since 1955 capitol of the region lower bavaria, is situated 66 km north-east of Munich in the valley of the river Isar. You can reach Landshut via the Autobahn A92 Munich-Deggendorf and via the Bundesstrassen 11, 15, 299.

There are excellent InterRegio and EuroCity-connections from Munich, Regensburg and Passau, several times a day, and all trains stop at Landshut Main Central Station. Landshut has the epithet "the three helmet city", lead back to the coat of arms of the city, which shows three helmets, like they were worn by the city guards in the middle age. The armours, produced by the so-called "plattners", were known and popular far over the frontiers of Landshut, at that time. Today at the "Royal Wedding of Landshut" the "Geharnischten" (the knights in the armours) wear copies of the works of art, in those days, which are true to the original and each of them good 50kg in weight. In the city museum in the "Residenz" you can see complete knight-armours from the workshops of Landshut.
