Taghazout

Taghazout is a small coastal village on Morocco’s Atlantic shore, once a quiet fishing settlement that has grown into a global surf destination without fully shedding its roots. Life here still follows the rhythms of the sea, with boats pulled onto the sand and daily routines shaped by tides and weather. Berber culture underpins the village’s identity, visible in local customs, food, and the understated pace that sets Taghazout apart from Morocco’s larger resort towns.

The landscape is defined by long beaches, rocky points, and consistent Atlantic swells. Surf breaks like Anchor Point, Panorama, and Hash Point draw surfers from around the world, while cliffs and headlands frame the shoreline in earthy tones. Inland, argan trees dot the hills, goats famously climbing their branches, and dusty paths lead toward valleys and small farms. Sunsets tend to linger, casting the coast in soft light that emphasizes the meeting of ocean and land.

Taghazout’s atmosphere is relaxed and communal. Days revolve around the surf, simple cafés, and shared meals of grilled fish and tagine, while evenings settle into quiet conversations and sea air. Yoga retreats, surf camps, and small guesthouses add to the village’s international feel, yet it remains grounded and unpolished.
