Réunion, a French overseas department in the Indian Ocean, lies east of Madagascar and combines European and Creole influences in a tropical setting. Its volcanic landscapes, lush forests, and coastal towns make it an extraordinary destination for those seeking both culture and nature. The island is particularly known for its active volcano, Piton de la Fournaise, one of the world’s most accessible volcanoes, which attracts visitors eager to witness its dramatic eruptions and lunar-like scenery.

Away from the volcano, Réunion offers striking natural diversity. The island’s three “cirques”, Mafate, Salazie, and Cilaos, are vast mountain amphitheaters formed by ancient volcanic activity. They provide hiking trails, waterfalls, and small villages that can feel worlds apart from the bustling coastal areas. The island’s beaches range from golden sands to striking black volcanic shores, with the western coast offering calm lagoons ideal for swimming and snorkeling.

Réunion also has a rich cultural blend, shaped by French, African, Indian, and Chinese heritage. This fusion is reflected in the island’s music, festivals, and cuisine. Visitors can enjoy dishes like cari (a local curry), samosas, and rum infused with island spices.
