Kas

Kas, a small coastal town on Turkey’s Turquoise Coast, is known for its charming mix of history, Mediterranean scenery, and laid-back atmosphere. Tucked between the towering Taurus Mountains and the deep blue waters of the Mediterranean, Kas has retained much of its small-town character, with narrow cobbled streets, whitewashed houses draped in bougainvillea, and a lively harbor filled with fishing boats and yachts. It’s a place where tradition and leisure naturally intertwine.

The town’s history stretches back to ancient Lycia, and remnants of this heritage can still be seen. A Lycian rock tomb overlooks the town, and the nearby ancient theater offers sweeping sea views. Just offshore lies the sunken city of Kekova, where ruins of ancient settlements can be seen beneath the clear waters, a favorite spot for boat excursions and snorkeling trips. Kas also serves as a gateway to the Lycian Way, one of Turkey’s most celebrated long-distance hiking trails, which links archaeological sites and coastal panoramas.

Modern Kas has grown into a hub for diving, with some of the best underwater sites in Turkey, ranging from vibrant reefs to shipwrecks. Cafés and family-run restaurants spill into the streets, serving fresh seafood and regional mezze, while a relaxed nightlife keeps the evenings sociable without overwhelming the town’s easy pace.
