Cave Creek is a town in Maricopa County, Arizona, located north of Phoenix at the edge of the Sonoran Desert. The community sits among desert hills and washes, with views toward the nearby Black Mountains and the broader Sonoran Desert landscape. Cave Creek retains a western character through its low-density development, equestrian properties, and locally oriented businesses. Its proximity to the Phoenix metropolitan area contrasts with the open desert surroundings, making the town a distinct community within the rapidly developing Valley region. The landscape is marked by saguaro cacti, palo verde trees, mesquite, and rocky outcrops.

Cave Creek's identity is closely connected with the history of ranching, mining, and the Hohokam people who lived throughout the surrounding desert region. Later settlers established ranches and mines in the area, and the town developed a reputation as a cattle and mining community. The Cave Creek Museum documents this local history through exhibits covering Indigenous heritage, mining, ranching, and early settlement. The nearby Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area also protects archaeological sites and landscapes associated with earlier inhabitants. Western-style architecture, horseback riding, and community events continue to reflect aspects of the area's ranching heritage.

The surrounding desert provides several opportunities for hiking and exploring. Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area contains trails through Sonoran Desert vegetation, along Cave Creek, and past archaeological features, including the remains of ancient agricultural terraces. Cave Creek Regional Park, north of town, offers hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, and camping across desert hills and washes. Black Mountain rises above the community and has trails leading to higher viewpoints. The nearby Tonto National Forest extends across a much larger area of desert and mountain terrain, with habitats supporting saguaro, desert tortoises, javelinas, coyotes, and numerous bird species.
